Mass riots and looting have broken out across South Africa after former president Jacob Zuma turned himself into serve a 15-month sentence for contempt of court.
Footage of a mom in Durban throwing her two-year-old baby off a burning building to safety during the riots has gone viral.
79-year-old Zuma, who ruled from 2009 to 2018, was sentenced in June after he refused to show up to an inquiry investigating alleged corruption during his time in office.
After he turned himself, protests broke out in his home province of KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday July 10 and soon turned into mass looting, arson and riots in Durban and Johannesburg, fueled by job layoffs and economic inequality worsened by the pandemic.

He is now being investigated for his sexual deception as his actions would constitute sexual abuse under current Spanish law.
Meet Sabah Saqr, a working mother who teaches men how to box twice a week in a small gym room in Beni Suef, Egypt.
“I started boxing by accident. I didn’t like it because I was worried about my face, about being hit,” Saqr said. But her trainer started training her after he saw her fence jumping and was impressed by her strength, power and energy.
After winning several championships and over 10 medals, two years ago, she decided to stop competing and start coaching.
Her students have mentioned that her serious approach to training, as well as her hard training methods, have helped her gain respect and trust from men.
With lockdowns forcing conveyor belt sushi restaurants to close in Japan, a dad decided to build his own mini restaurant at home to surprise his six-year-old son.
